LOCKED TO
destage
[Winding up in a world full of animal people who wanted nothing more than to decorate their houses and make friends was kind of surreal at first. Okay, maybe "kind of" isn't really the best way to describe it. It was really surreal. Mondo hadn't handled it very well at first and he'd been stuck working for a raccoon named Tom Nook for more time than he really cares to recall. In fact, he should still be working for the raccoon, since he showed up in town without a single Bell to his name and Tom Nook not only gave him a (really cramped) house, he also taught Mondo how to work to earn Bells. This didn't answer any of Mondo's questions, like why Bells were currency or how he'd gotten here, but he'd settled in as best he could.
Mondo's not the sort of person to handle being in one place for too long, and after awhile the friendly villagers just started to piss him off. So he hopped on the last train of the night and didn't look back. He's spent some time chatting with a cat, but when the train pulls into the next station, Mondo gets off. He doesn't look any different than he did in Prayer's Pass, with his pompadour still perfectly maintained and long dark coat thrown over loose-fitting clothes. His hands are shoved in his pockets and when he steps out of the station and gets a look around, he balls his fists.]
Shit, it looks exactly the same...
[Well, to the town's credit it does have different fruit in the trees and the houses are in different places, but it looks almost identical to the town he just left. Part of him is tempted just to hop back on the train, but he spent the last of his Bells getting that ticket, so it looks like he's stuck here for now. With a groan, Mondo begins to walk, looking for the town hall or whatever (he never bothered learning what it was called), so that he can hopefully find a way to get out of here quickly.]

[He laughs and joins her, sitting down and propping himself up on his hands.]
How's your day been?
no subject
[She gives a quick scan over the water before turning back to him with a grin.]
It's been good, though! Nothing too unusual, but there was this weird cat over at the Roost--he seems like an interesting fellow, at least. Other than that, I found a few more flowers for the house~
What about you? Any new adventures in the midst of your deliveries?
no subject
[Or uh, cat.]
No new adventures though, just giving stuff to people. At least there weren't any mixups or anything.

[--Oh! Sayaka feels a tiny tug on the line and practically jumps on the chance to reel something in--sadly, it's a little too soon and the fish turns tail and swims. Grr...]
Well, that's good at least...hopefully they aren't teasing you too much because you're still working for Nook.
[She casts her line out again, grumbling a bit.]
no subject
[Mondo watches her try to reel in the fish and laughs softly.]
No need to get too excited! Just wait for the big tug, then pull 'em in!
[Her statement gets him to pause for a moment before shaking his head.]
Nah, they're not. They're teasing, yeah, but it's not anything I can't handle.
no subject
[...oh wait what. Sayaka's look goes dead serious at that, pretty much losing any attention on the line for the moment.]
Who's doing it? [Give her names, man. If anything, her tone implies that someone's gonna get a tongue lashing if she sees 'em again.]
no subject
no subject
[Translation: Yes, she is gonna worry.
Still, she...does calm down a bit after a couple seconds, shrinking down a bit.]
I...I'm sorry. I just...worry, is all. I shouldn't have reacted like that...
[She just doesn't like that they don't know the whole story and their judging. Not that she'd want to tell them, but...it still gets her defensive.]
no subject
[He says it lightly, smiling a bit. It's kind of awkward, but he's trying.]
I'm sure they aren't saying it to be mean, they're just teasing. It's fine!
no subject
[She just doesn't wanna see something happen that'll sour this place. They've already had two places turn on them; she'd rather not see a third.]
...Let me know if they do though, alright? Please? I--
[--you know, it's like these things happen on cue. There's a surprisingly strong tug on the line, causing Sayaka to grab on in case it tries to take her pole with it! She's careful not to reel too hard yet, but--!]
I--I think we've got one!
no subject
Ah, great! Just pull it in slowly and you'll get it!
[Of course she's done this before, but it's slipped his mind not that they're in the heat of the moment.]
1/2
W-what kind of fish is this--I'd better not be pulling up a rock or something!
[It takes a good thirty seconds more for the war of girl vs fish to be over with, and she's finally able to reel the sucker in--]
2/2
She doesn't even know what it is, but she's quick to get it onto the land so it can't go flailing back into the water. Just. Give her a moment here, she doesn't even know what this is.]
O-Oowada-kun, have you ever seen this kind of fish before? What...what is it?
[All she knows is that it's huge, it's brownish, and...well, it's fricking huge.]
no subject
Holy shit, I've never seen something like this! I didn't think river fish even got this big!!
[As usual, he's extremely loud, which probably isn't helping that poor fish at all.]
no subject
[At this point, Sayaka's pretty much unintentionally reaching that level of loud as well. That poor fish...
Still, this is not even close to what she was expecting, damn.]
--Let's get it somewhere safe, quick!
[...She's gonna try to pick up part of the fish, trying to move her head to signal for Mondo to pick up the other half.
And yes, she is implying that they are taking this back to one of their houses because clearly this is a sane decision.]
no subject
[Mondo moves to pick up his half of the fish though. It's not squirming quite as much anymore, though it's definitely still alive.]
Wouldn't it make more sense to figure out what it is or sell it? Unless... are you gonna keep it!?
no subject
[COME ON MONDO, WE'RE DOING THIS THING, HOP TO IT.]
no subject
[Well, alright, he'll follow her lead. This is pretty crazy, but it is her fish so she can do what she wants with it.]
no subject
[Okay, her house isn't too far from here--they're probably getting stares from just about anyone walking around right now, but screw it, nothing is gonna stop her from adopting another fish.
Once she's got the lock in, she'll...attempt to take the rest of the fish and put it over her shoulder. Holy crap that is a heavy fish--but soon enough, as soon as she drops it on the ground of her own house? A nice, huge fish tank suddenly appears.
Don't ask how.]
Phew...I didn't think we were gonna have this much of an adventure!
[...wait]
--Aaaah! We still didn't get a fish for you! Unless...well...
[He's more than welcome inside the house, if he isn't already inside--she'll move the new tank out of the way, but it's decorated with enough fishes and stuffed animals that one wonders if this isn't just a glorified toybox. Plenty of cute, tiny fish are on display, though!]
no subject
...Holy shit.
[Well, no one said he was graceful about it.
Once he gets over the initial shock of seeing the fish in the tank, he glances around. Sayaka's house is nice and there are plenty of other fish to keep this one company. Mondo's attention is drawn to her exclamation and he laughs, holding up his hands.]
No, it's fine! I can always catch a fish on my own, there's no need to worry about it!
no subject
That's true, yes. Hopefully you can fit yours in the house!
[...Still, she kind of pauses for a moment, not...really sure what to do. She figured it'd have taken longer to find one to take home with her, but--]
So...um, do you want to go back out? Or...
[She still wants him around, that much is clear, but...she's kind of having a stupid moment, give her a little bit...]
no subject
[He laughs though. If he did catch something that big he'd sell it. But something small and cute probably wouldn't go for much anyway, so it'd be safe to keep.]
Ah, well, while I'm here, maybe you could show me around? If-- If that's okay, I mean, I don't want to intrude or anything...
[It finally occurs to him that he just waltzed right on in her house without waiting for her to invite him in. Whoops.]
no subject
Of course I can! It's not really that big yet, but...
[Come in, come in! She is gonna be pushing that fish tank around so it can join the others, and once she's done with that, she'll show him all the others!]
These are the rest of the fish I was telling you about! [There's primarily guppies in their tanks, but there are a few goldfish and a koi as well.] This is Himeko, Reiko, Yuriko--
[...Yes, she actually named all her fish. Once she's done naming all of them off, she'll show him around the rest of the almost blindingly pink room! It's surprisingly well furnished, despite most of the space being reserved for the fish or the stuffed animal empire; a nice looking couch, an Apple Tv, a tiny counter with a microwave and fridge; she'll probably be talking his ear off about how she got those things and any stupid stories about them.]
That about does it for this room... [Just. Let her catch her breath for a moment. She's kinda giggly after talking so much, and she looks up to the stairway.]
Well...the upstairs hasn't really had much done to it yet...I'm using it as a bedroom for the time being.
[She giggles a bit, a little more soft. She doubts he'd wanna see it; it's not as pink as the 'living room', if you could call it that, but there wasn't really much to it yet...]
no subject
While she's talking it also occurs to him that he hasn't talked to anyone normal in months and he's really missed it. That's not all he's missed though - he's missed her and he's missed hearing her talk like this because Sayaka can light up any room when she gets going. When she finally pauses to take a breather, Mondo laughs again, the sound soft.]
You don't have to show me it if you don't wanna. It seems like you've done some serious work here though! Congrats, it looks great.
no subject
Maybe this is what she needed this whole time, freedom. She certainly won't deny that it's an amazing feeling.]
Hee hee...maybe when it's a little less bare, yeah...
[She can't really describe what she's feeling at the moment; it seems silly to think that just talking to him could bring a smile onto her face like that, right?]
Thank you, though. I really worked hard on it, so I'm glad you noticed!
[...She does giggle a bit more into one of her hands.]
Honestly, I was worried that you were going to try and get me to find something to make it less girly!
[And at that point, she just has to restrain her laughter behind that hand further. Dear god, she is so stupid right now.]
