VOICETESTING
You know how it goes, sometimes you've just gotta make a post for voicetesting. So here we are!! I have never actually played OCs in DWRP and so now I'm weirdly nervous about it so I could use some assistance in ironing some things out! I made this OC with Sable (who plays Blanche) and I'm looking to get a feel for him while I work out some details about his history/etc! Because I'm a simple person, you get murdergame prompts. I'm open to other sorts of prompts or generic jamjars/etc if you'd prefer to do that too! This is just what I could come up with off the top of my head, lmao.
ALARIC THURN
Personal knight of Queen Blanche of the Kingdom of Lamarre, and one half of the duo responsible for a bloody coup that recently put the Queen on the throne. While Alaric looks the part of a royal knight and has the skills to back it up, he's more like a wild dog barely being held back by the leash that is Queen Blanche's morality. He cares about exactly two people besides himself and otherwise would let the world burn if it meant their safety. He really, really, really hates nobles and was all too glad to kill Blanche's siblings!! Cares more about his clothes and his appearance than almost anything else. Well, maybe except for fighting. Remarkably laidback almost all the time, but is he really just that "no thoughts, head empty" or is there more to him...?
Occupation: Queen Blanche's personal knight
Age: 26 | Height: 6'1" | Weight: (idk i'm so bad at this section he's not super buff??)
Likes: Queen Blanche, his mom, fighting, fashion, power, money
Dislikes: Nobles, those who misuse their power, ruining his clothes, boredom
Trivia: On average, Alaric ruins three outfits a week!
Prompts will be posted below! Feel free to respond to whichever one(s) interest you or hit me up on plurk to figure out something else! I'm definitely fine with wildcards or just throwing something random out there, so it doesn't have to be murdergame based!

slides in in the middle of writing up an info post for my own oc......
[They say, from where they're standing next to the rules, having been looking them over. This all seems a bit... much, if they're being honest. Like, wouldn't it just be easier to kill people than this whole song and dance?
They'll let Alaric find out the rules on his own time. He's a big boy - the same age as Hyacinth, if the profiles are to be believed - so he doesn't need his hand held. Probably. You never know, with some people.
Hyacinth's profile would be relatively unremarkable, if Alaric's found it yet. 26, a full foot shorter than the knight, with their likes including things like sewing, traveling, card tricks, and fortune telling, and their dislikes... fortune telling, royalty, the gods. Normal murdergame stuff.
"Always knows precisely when things will go wrong and doesn't stop it." may or may not relate to that. Hard to know from how cryptic it all is.]
Do think it's interestin' how ya hate ruinin' your clothes an' somehow keep doin' it...
[What's up with that? Is he just unlucky?]
you can do it!!
Comes with the job. You get a lot of people going after the Queen, and sometimes I've gotta sacrifice my clothes while stopping 'em.
[...I totally forgot to list the occupation, which I will edit now, but! "Occupation: Queen Blanche's personal knight" should give some insight into that!]
i did it!!
[All the knights and guards they've ever met have worn some sort of armor... Isn't armor a standard thing... They're squinting at his occupation and trying to figure it out.
(Their occupation would be listed as "Former nanny", so. Alaric's job definitely sounds more glamorous and exciting.)]
Or I suppose the better question might be why do people hate yer queen so much...
congrats!!
[Says the man wearing an oversized cape?? But it probably is still lighter than armor.]
Besides, the element of surprise has come in handy more than a few times.
[Dress like a nobleman, then reveal you're actually the soldier, that sort of thing.]
As for that? Eh, she made a lot of enemies when she took the throne. Typical noble bullshit.
[Alaric waves a hand at that, as if that explains everything.]
no subject
Well, I guess if it ain’t gettin’ ya killed it’s fine… Maybe ya should learn how to wash blood outta yer clothin’, at least.
[It’s not impossible to achieve with some fabrics, at least, even if some will still be a lost cause… They’re just trying to help.
Still, they’re nodding in agreement even though, again. That explains nothing.]
I s’pose a lotta noble folk don’t take too kindly to changes in power.
[They almost say “hopefully she’ll be fine while you’re here” but manage to bite their tongue.]
no subject
Nope. Never have, never will.
[Another dismissive wave of his hand.]
But that's enough about me and that nonsense. You're... [a brief glance to the profiles to make sure he's got the correct name] Hyacinth, right?
no subject
BUT ALSO, SIR... Sir... isn't it more cost-efficient to just repair or wash your clothes...!!]
Yeah, that'd be me. In the flesh, or so I'm assumin' at least. I don't reckon this is some massive dream or somethin' like that.
no subject
Probably not. Seems real enough, anyway.
So this information, [he inclines his head, presumably to indicate Hyacinth's profile] this accurate? Seems kinda nosey to have this listed about all of us.
no subject
Have ya tried pinchin' or hurtin' yerself?
[They're reaching out, but it's not very threatening considering they're grinning and also look like they couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. But they'll do it. They'll pinch him.]
It's pretty right about me, but I don't know about this whole... trivia section. [...] It's pretty fuckin' creepy is what it is, as if this weren't strange enough already.
no subject
He waves a hand at that, not inviting the pinch, but not really doing much to stop them from trying it either.]
My best guess is that it's trying to scare us. "Look at how much we already know about you", that sorta thing.
no subject
They're also pinching him, as hard as they possibly can.]
I reckon it is somethin' that'd spook folks who ain't use to their lives bein' so public, but it seems a bit strange to play this card so quickly. Seems the kinda information you'd wanna reveal havin' later on, when you want people to realize how much power you have.

no subject
Oh boy will he be in for a nasty surprise. ]
I was thinking about heading back to sleep, actually. Sadly, I'm also feeling a bit parched so maybe after a trip to the kitchen...why ask?
[ Surely there won't be a dead body in there. Waiting. ]
no subject
Kinda surprised to see you up this early, but that'd explain it.
[Not that Alaric knows Linhardt well, but he's definitely gotten the sense that the guy would rather sleep his way through this murdergame. Which would be a mood except Alaric doesn't sleep much to begin with.]
Curiosity. You don't mind if I join, yeah?
[Maybe he's on edge for no reason, but better to be safe than sorry. Note that before Linhardt has even answered, Alaric's already heading off in the direction of the kitchen, sorry not sorry.]
no subject
No—and look at that, you've already decided you were going to come along, weren't you?
[ He says with a bit of small amusement. But he doesn't mind all that much, he supposes. It'll be a quick trip.
But, something will be evidently amiss with the kitchen, given that someone has moved, let us say...a table and a stack of chairs atop it in order to block entrance into said area. How rude. ]
Really...don't people have better things to do other than be an awful nuisance early in the morning?
no subject
Of course, they've got bigger things to worry about right now, and Alaric inclines his head a bit at the strange blockade to entering the kitchen.]
Seems like someone really doesn't want you getting that glass of water.
[Dumb jokes aside, it really is odd... Sure, some of the people here have messed around, but not usually like this. It's not quite enough to get his mind to jump to "murder" immediately, but it's weird. Alaric takes a step back and then rams the door with his shoulder... but nope.]
Not gonna brute force this one open. C'mon, let's try the other door.
[It involves going the long way around through the other side of the dining room, but hopefully that one will be open! If we've got a locked room murder for week 1 that will be
hilariousterrible.]no subject
[ Though because he can't at the moment with this one entranceway being blocked, Linhardt is admittedly now...curious at what's going on here. Now for better or worse he decides not to turn around and head on back. He has to see what's in the kitchen.
So he is waiting, hoping the blond can brute force his way in, but that doesn't appear to be going all that well. Curiouser and curiouser... ]
If someone managed to block the other entrance I might be a little impressed. Mostly annoyed, but a bit impressed nonetheless at the dedication.
[ Lindy goes in a bit of a speedwalk to the other door, which doesn't have an obvious blockade in front of it. But when he tries to turn the doorknob, and push the door open...it only budges a smidgen and it is not nearly enough to open properly to even just a crack. He sighs and stands back from it. ]
There's something mostly keeping this door shut. Maybe you'll have better luck with this one?
[ As a terrible note, what is lying against this door is somebody's dead body. So yes, it appears it will be a 'locked room' murder. ]
no subject
Anyway, Alaric follows Linhardt when he moves to try the other door, and after watching that attempt, he nods.]
Yeah, I should be able to get this one open. Stand back.
[Alaric's built more like the speedy swordsmaster type, so while he's not very physically bulky, he definitely does have some strength to put to good use. And in this case "good use" is brute forcing that door open and pushing that poor corpse out of the way. There's probably a smear of blood on the floor as he gets it open, sorry, Linhardt...
And what's within is even more of an "I'm sorry, Linhardt". There's a trail of blood leading over to this door (before Alaric brute forced it open which has definitely contaminated the crime scene, whoops) as well as the aforementioned body. The poor guy looks like he was done in by a lot of injuries - most seemingly made with a blade of some sort.
Of course, all of that is a bit secondary to the fact that there's a dead guy in here and Alaric winces.]
Yikes.
[Thanks, Alaric.]
no subject
What—
[ Linhardt's gaze flickers on past that smear of blood after feeling a brief nasty shock to—all of that. ]
...oh no.
[ He's suddenly very, very awake and hates everything right now because of all the blood. Why is there a trail of blood (definitely a bit messy by now)?? Why is there also a bloody dead body right then and there?
He makes a movement to immediately back up even further. Like a lot. He might be practically a dot in the distance by now (okay not really but he's getting there...)
It'd be one thing if he had his healing magic, but he's never been good with this sort of thing. ]

barrels in with an oc of my own
She has a simple piece of toast with her; she's decided that she's not going to finish eating it, so she's on her way to toss it in the trash when Alaric waves her over. Morbid sure is an understatement.
Kasumi simply nods and glances away, clearly unhappy with their predicament. Her voice is quiet when she responds: ]
Yes... I understand the sentiment, but even so...
[ With all the yelling and hostility going around, she doesn't feel like having a gathering is the play, here. And yet, here she is. ]
omg i love her icons, so cute
Seems kinda half-assed, if you ask me. [no one did, though??] We're a group of people who've only known each other for a week, and half of us were at each others' throats an hour ago. Acting like this is all such a shame feels...
[He trails off, then waves a hand.]
Hollow.
[...Yeah, Blanche would definitely be giving him A Look right now. So he sighs and rubs the back of his head. He's not exactly sorry for being an asshole, but he can acknowledge that Kasumi probably doesn't deserve to be the one dealing with this.]
Anyway, you thinking of ditching?
tyty ouo
It's a terrible situation...but...we are all still strangers, in the end.
[ And she doesn't quite mind that. Honestly, people are hard enough to deal with as is, and as much as she likes helping them, interacting is an entirely different matter.
At his question, she looks down at her toast. ]
Most likely... It's like you've said. This doesn't feel very fulfilling. I think I'd like some air.
[ A beat, then: ]
You can join, if you'd like. Being with everyone else is a little stifling...
no subject
I was thinking the same thing. No sense sticking around here for something that's not working for me.
[Or perhaps more accurately, something that's kind of setting him on edge. It's not quite pissing him off, but it's definitely getting some kind of weird reaction from him. So Alaric rises, sweeping his cape behind him as he moves to join Kasumi.]
Lead on, then.
[It's a light remark; he'll follow wherever she wants to go, since she did invite him, after all.]
no subject
[ And she leads him out of the room, trying to slip away before anyone tries to rope them back in. Thankfully, RNG has decided that she is able to make a clean getaway! And, assuming Alaric has, too, she'll go out into the courtyard.
Once she's there, she lets out a loud sigh, followed by a sheepish laugh. ]
Well, it looks like we're free from all of that! And...thank you for accompanying me. It's easier to talk about things out here, I think.
[ And, speaking of which: ]
...What did you think about the trial, if I may ask?
no subject
Not a problem. Thank you for putting up with my ranting.
[It's not an apology - because he isn't sorry - but that much he can express easily enough. It's the question that follows after that gets him to incline his head a bit, gaze darting elsewhere. For once, he almost looks serious.]
I'm wondering what the point of all of it was. Not the killer and their role in all of that - I get that.
[They wanted to go home and they were willing to kill someone for it.]
I mean our "Overseer" and what they're getting out of all of this. Why set it up like this to begin with? What's the point in these trials? Last I checked, "trials" were supposed to be fair and there was nothing fair about this.
[Not for the killer, but certainly not for the rest of them either.]
