[The outside world wasn't a friendly place. That was understating it; it was a nightmare.
Leon, Sayaka, Kirigiri, Naegi, and Aoi had all made it out alive. The others had died - either by killing each other or by executions - and Junko had executed herself when Kirigiri and Naegi solved all the mysteries of the school. Leon hadn't been able to follow all of it, but from what he gathered, Junko had done all of this for her own amusement. It sickened him, to think that anyone could find this game of mutual killing to be amusing.
He wouldn't lie, there was a moment where he considered killing someone for his freedom. He had wanted to leave so badly... but he had resisted that urge. Togami had died first and it wasn't long before that urge was crushed. He would have rather lived in the school forever than face a potential execution.
They had split up to spread the message of hope to everyone. Their survival was the bright spot of hope in this bleak world... or something like that. Leon didn't remember exactly what Naegi had said. Either way, he was travelling with Sayaka, serving as her personal bodyguard. That was a job he wasn't keen on doing - he wasn't going to put his ass on the line for her; but there were other bodyguards that he could boss around, so Leon didn't really mind the job.
Besides, he got to meet a lot of despondent, desperate chicks.
So that day, one of the last days in this particular encampment, Leon is busy chatting up the ladies. He's not a very good bodyguard, obviously. But at least he's keeping an eye on Sayaka from afar! That's got to count for something, right?]

Even with this new 'freedom' Junko had gifted them--if it could even be called that--she was right. Despair stood in their way, every step of it. They had good luck so far, but she had to wonder just how much longer it'd last.
She was scared of this world. It frightened her to her core sometimes.
But she'd take it over being alone. Here, she had at least befriended the remaining students...well, by a certain definition of befriending. They got along to a certain degree, it was close enough!
Which leads to today; they'd been split up for the most part, taking to different parts of the torn land to relay the message of hope that Naegi had given them. Sayaka did it well, all things considered; she was good with people, and it seemed like things were looking up.
She'd just gotten finished giving a bit of a pep speech to a smaller group of people, sending them off with newfound hope in their hearts. Ah, how wonder--wait. Sayaka had turned behind her when she noticed Leon was...talking to another group of women. ...Sigh, oh, just what is she going to do with him?
Walk right up behind him and be a horrible dateblocker, that's what. She was quick to clear her throat--loudly, with a smile on her face.]
Having fun spreading the message of hope around, Kuwata-kun?
[Busted.]

Yeah, of course! We've gotta have fun when we can!
[He touches her arm to get her to come with him away from the ladies he was hitting on. Once they're a decent distance away, he drops the act.]
Hey, look, don't mess this up, alright? I'm trying to score here and you're making it pretty tough. You don't have to worry about your safety, there's the other bodyguards who can protect you better than I can. Let's face it, I'm only here 'cause they've got nothing else for me to do. So just let me have some fun, okay?
no subject
Don't mess this up? [She repeats the words, if only to emphasize how ridiculous he sounds.]
You could've messed yourself up. It's not wise to just go around flirting with every girl you see, you know?
[...She does doubt that a little, considering the fact that this has been pretty safe so far, but. Sigh.] Kuwata-kun...you still have a job to do, no matter how you see it. Naegi-kun and Kirigiri-san wouldn't have trusted you with this if they didn't think you were good for the job, would they?
[She pauses a bit, her expression twitching a bit upward.]
Besides that, I think you've had plenty of fun here in the past week.

[But his words sound hollow to his own ears. Yes, he's aware of how messed up the world is now, but the fact that he could be killed by just about anyone somehow never occurred to him. Leon shifts awkwardly from one foot to the other, staring down at the floor - the perfect image of a scolded child.]
Yeah, yeah I know. I still think it's 'cause there was nothing better for me to do, but at least they seem to think I'll be good at this.
[He wasn't sure why. Just because he had good aim and could swing a bat didn't mean he could defend Sayaka.]
Ugh, are you kidding me? This place is boring!
[And it's not boring because he keeps getting rejected, nope not at all.]
no subject
...You know, you really make it seem like you were just chosen out of a hat for this. Have a little more confidence in yourself!
[Her expression goes slightly awry when he calls the place boring, however--]
...You haven't gotten a single girl here, have you?
[She may not be able to read minds, but she can read expressions very well. And Leon, you are just an open book in size 24 font.]

[Leon sighs and folds his arms behind his head, staring up at the ceiling. He tries not to complain about the way the world is now, but it's impossible to ignore it. He would have given anything for things to go back to the way they were.
Sayaka's question catches his interest though, and Leon immediately gets defensive.]
What? Oh c'mon, a guy like me, not getting any girls? You're crazy!
[Hey shut up about his font, he just likes large-print books! Easier to read, y'know!]
no subject
...Still, that expression turns back to a light hearted one at that defensive comment. She smiles; it looks like she hit the nail on the head~]
Aw, don't you know? I can read minds. You can't hide what you're thinking from me~
[...Okay yeah, no. Sayaka can't keep a straight face after saying that.]
Just kidding; I do have good intuitions, however. ...And I suppose I haven't exactly been any help on that end, have I...
[...Bro, you need glasses if you need those books.]

[Leon laughs though, like it's a completely hilarious joke. To be honest, he had thought of attempting to date Sayaka early on during their horrible stay in Hope's Peak, but she was so far out of his league he hadn't bothered. She was everything he would like in a girl, but she was far too important to their mission of hope to even bother.]
no subject
Still, now wasn't a time to consider it.]
They're very quick to assume, then! It really is kind of silly when you think about it...but if it keeps the intimidation factor up, then it might be beneficial.
[...Well, maybe not to Leon, but...]
no subject
[He laughs at that, clearly amused by the idea. There's no way she's serious - a girl like her with a guy like him? not gonna happen - but the idea is one he's considered before. The "intimidation factor" is obviously a joke, right?]
Just you wait, one of these days I'll get my charm back and get all the girls to swoon for me! Maybe even you too!
[Another laugh. Maybe his "charm" came from his fame rather than anything he naturally had. The idea was rather depressing, and was one Leon simply wouldn't consider.]
no subject
[...Leon, please. Please just stop, okay? You're trying so hard..! It's making her giggle, dammit! If eyeroll a bit along with it...]
Keep dreaming big, Kuwata-kun. Maybe you'll make it come true...but for now, just don't do anything too reckless.
[She says that light heartedly, but she means it seriously. Now ain't exactly the time to be dreaming about that sorta thing. Maybe if everything gets sorted out...]
no subject
[He laughs, but he understands what she means. Anything could be dangerous now in this world. He glances back over his shoulder at the girls who are chatting and for a moment he considers excusing himself from Sayaka to go talk to them again. Then he shrugs slightly and turns back to Sayaka.]
Guess we should get going, right? We've got plenty of other places to hit to... spread the message of hope, or whatever.
no subject
[She manages a joking tone when she says that--more 'tsk tsk' than anything else, while she shakes her head at him. There's a smile on her face though, as she looks back over to the girls...]
...It'll take a little bit to pack up--I'll do it, alright? You can go back to the girls, if you'd really like. Just remember to stay safe.
[Beat.]
...Promise me that you will, okay?
no subject
[He pauses for a moment, considering, then grins.]
But if you insist! I should at least tell the ladies I'm hitting the road, right? I promise I'll stay safe, okay?
[He says it half-jokingly, but he is serious. Leon wouldn't want Maizono to worry too much about him, after all. He'd probably get whined at y Naegi if he did that.]
no subject
...She casts those thoughts out of her head--her expression had gone a little grim at the time, but she managed a small smile at him.]
I'm going to hold you to that promise, Kuwata-kun. Just enjoy yourself for a little bit, alright? And make sure nothing happens to either of us?
[She doesn't wait for his answer--simply raising a hand while she rushes to go back and get everything packed up. She trusted him at least, she trusted him to be okay.
Lord would have to help her if he wasn't when she got back--]
