LOCKED TO [personal profile] oceansbane

[It's dark out and the tide's come in. Archie's standing up to his knees in seawater, but he doesn't mind the fact that his pants are getting soaked. He's tossing a Pokéball in his hand and catching it, waiting for Maxie to show up. He knows that Maxie likes an uphill fight, and this one clearly is going to be difficult for Maxie to win based on these conditions. Of course, Maxie probably will win, just because he's so unpredictable and innovative. Archie doesn't mind. It feels good to finally be battling Maxie again.

Sharpedo swims in slow circles behind Archie, waiting anxiously for the battle he's been promised. Archie's left his newest acquisition, Froakie, back home, but he's brought all of his others. That means he has eight Pokémon on him instead of the usual six, but he doubts Mightyena or Crawdaunt will really help him any. Still, if he can win by even one Pokémon... it would be amazing.]

[Tide's in.

It's something Maxie has become increasingly aware of, since he's spent time here; it's not that it matters to him particularly, other than ensuring that he's going to spend time further down in that cave system he occupies with his rival, but it's at this time of night that said rival is far, far more active than usual. Something about the high tide always seems to wake him up, and this often results in bites on his shoulder and things that definitely aren't kisses being laid against his neck and Archie's hand sliding up his inner thigh, and tonight he's skipping out on that and he imagines Archie's going to bitch but Maxie...he's feeling contrary tonight. Not here for anyone else; just looking for a way to reset, to try to deal with the thoughts that he's remembering more about this place now and the more he recalls it, the more he realizes that he's...missed it, almost.

And as it had with Archie that evening, it leaves him feeling prickly as hell, full of energy that he needs to work out of his system.

It's like he'd said to this version of Archie earlier, it's worked out exactly as he'd thought it would - he has his bearings, and he wants to fight.

He has one of his ever-present Houndooms with him as he approaches the beach that night, remaining hidden by the treeline where that forest presses up against the beach, and he stops when he's alerted to Archie's presence. Not the one he knows, of course, but the other one - though the idea suddenly surfaces that he supposes he knows this one, too, and that's another thought that leaves him feeling prickly.

He recalls Houndoom, shifting a bit to get a better look at where his opponent for the evening is located; he emerges from the treeline a good distance from there, keeping himself unseen for now. There are some of those rock formations here as well, and one of those outcroppings should work well enough to give him some sort of vantage point; he doesn't fight in the water itself if he can help it, and high tide has him even more reluctant to do so - he's utterly screwed if he gets dragged under, and he doesn't want to be concerning himself with the patterns in the waves and breakers along with the battle.

So. Up on one of those rock formations he goes, then; the upper crest of it is a good distance up, enough such that it'll give him a decent view of the field, as it were, and at the very least it's dry - if Archie starts with the Rain Dance nonsense that's not going to last long, but his balance is good and as long as he doesn't jump around too much he'll be all right. So it's just a matter of crossing the formation, and he does so without falling, and he announces his presence to Archie by slinging a small rock down at him, spiking it sharply into the water next to him.

He imagines Archie may have seen this coming, him being up here; it's the sort of position he'd taken for their first battle, after all. A good distance up, out of the water but close enough to command effectively. Let's see how this goes.]

Did I keep you waiting, Archie?

Whenever you're ready.

[Spending long periods of time underground have gotten Maxie accustomed to doing things in near-complete darkness; at least the night is mostly clear tonight, and visibility is nowhere near as bad as it could be. He still can't see as well as would be ideal, and any bursts of flame run the risk of temporarily blinding him once the initial flareup dies down, but there are a few things that he has on him to assist with that.

He's not too concerned for now, but he knows better than to completely underestimate; after all, Archie has the tactical advantage here due to the water, and he's been learning from him, after all. He breathes deeply before seeking out one of his Pokéballs; he can feel himself shaking again, a sharp shot of adrenaline coursing through his system.

Maybe he really has missed this.

He releases both of his Houndooms on the outcropping next to him, ordering the female to start with Nasty Plot before sending her down onto the beach below; she bounds down obediently, boosting her stats all the while before landing neatly in the sand at the water's edge.

He keeps the male with him, not ordering anything but keeping his hands on the Houndoom's back, fingertips trailing down the ridges along its spine. Let's see where this goes.]

[All right, that confusion has potential to be inconvenient, but if Archie's going to be playing it like that - ]

Flamethrower, catch it hard -

[It's something that's always been a favorite of his, really; if you're going to try to hit his Pokémon in the fucking face, you're going to get a face full of fire in the attempt, and what with Nasty Plot, that isn't exactly going to be a soft tap.]
