LOCKED TO [personal profile] twinsanity

[Getting separated from the main group wasn't actually a problem for Krauser. In fact, he preferred it. There were less idiots around to have to look after this way. He would have preferred to take care of business on his own, but unfortunately, he wasn't alone. He didn't know Alfred Ashford very well, though there was a nagging feeling in the back of his mind that the man's name was far too familiar. Maybe he knew a kid with the name Alfred in school or something. It wasn't important now. What was important was staying alive. Granted, they hadn't actually seen anything dangerous (outside of some poison mushrooms and maybe a snake or two), but Krauser wasn't the sort to let his guard down easily. In fact, it was safer to say that the man literally didn't know how to let his guard down. Prior to everything that had happened in South America, he had spent his free time as a mercenary. Of course, that was quite some time ago, but at least it had prepared him for this sort of task; wandering lost through the wilderness and keeping some other guy alive.

At least the other guy isn't Leon. That is about the only good thing he can come up with.

The woods are thick and dark, letting in very little sunlight during the day. The forest is surprisingly cold and there seems to be a permanent mist around their feet as they walk. It's definitely eerie and unlike any forest Krauser has trekked through before, but the flora and fauna mostly look familiar. He can't pinpoint the exact sort of trees that are around them, or the exact species of snakes they've seen, but they're at least familiar, which Krauser thinks is a good thing.

After all, what else about this place has been familiar? He's heard too many wild stories from the people here to even try to guess how crazy they all are. Again, it's not something he's going to dwell on now, while they need to find the others. If Alfred wasn't here he'd be perfectly fine exploring on his own. He could easily look after himself without issue, but having another person (a civilian? he's not sure if Alfred has any combat experience and hasn't bothered to ask) to look out for changes things.

He stops walking and glances upwards. What little sun the trees were letting in has finally vanished and if he tilts his head back far enough, he can see the faint glimmer of stars above. While Krauser has no issues walking for hours on end, he doubts Alfred can keep up for that long. The last thing he needs is for the other man to start complaining or lagging behind.]

...We'll rest here for the night.

[He drops the backpack he's been carrying with him and digs through it. Their supplies are beginning to run low, but at least there's animals to hunt if they run out completely.]

No fire. We don't want to attract attention.

[From his estimate, they're still too far away from the main group. If they were closer then a fire might draw their attention, but as it stands he doesn't want to alert anyone else to their presence.]

[For what it's worth, Alfred isn't about to complain.

Oh, he's thought about it - these conditions are about as far from "ideal" as you can get, hell only knows what's out there in the first place (other than the assorted group of idiots they're trying to find, and frankly he wouldn't give a damn if he never saw them again), and walking for hours is generally not his idea of a good time. However, while he's not exactly out to impress the guy he's with - he doesn't know Krauser nearly well enough for that, and Alfred doesn't know if he's worth impressing in the first place - he's not out to make himself look weak or like he can't handle himself, either; he'd be perfectly fine on his own, mind you, but if he's being handed a resource he'd be an idiot to not utilize it, right?

Of course, there was the small matter of Alexia not trusting Krauser any further than she could throw him, and for a while Alfred was concerned that he wouldn't be able to convince her to come with and that would have been a problem. But she'd eventually relented because someone had to look out for her brother, and Alfred had been tempted to touch her but he didn't (Alexia never liked physical contact and so Alfred avoided it, since upsetting her was far worse than being unable to touch her), and while he didn't know exactly where she was in relation to them he could tell she was nearby. She would probably keep an eye on them for the rest of the night, even if he couldn't see where she was; it was nice to know, really.]

Right, of course.

[...Granted, this still left Alfred with Krauser for company, and between the both of them the night was likely going to be impressive on the social competence front.]

So you do this often, I'm assuming.

[The whole survival thing, he means. Hopefully not the whole being-completely-fucking-lost thing.]
