LOCKED TO
preybeforemeals
[One would think that Kureo Mado would be ill-suited for a peaceful place like Johto. He's a fighter, and a pretty damn good one for a man his age. Being stuck in a world without quinques - without ghouls - probably should have been enough to drive him crazy (or crazier).
But Mado always rose to the challenge, and this was no different than anything else he'd done in his life. The investigator is currently seated in the Olivine library, surrounded by books. The piles are fairly neat but the books open in front of him certainly aren't. He has two notebooks open in front of him and flips back and forth between them, writing notes and reading passages in the books he has out. This is the sort of care and dedication that would go into any of his research back home, but what exactly is the former ghoul investigator looking at?
...Pokémon type matchups. To be more specific, he's studying dual-type Pokémon and what sort of strategies work best against them. He seems perfectly content to scribble away in the notebooks, seemingly oblivious to his surroundings.]

[TSUKIYAMA, YOU ARE IN A LIBRARY, PLEASE SHUT UP OR KEEP IT DOWN.]
See, that's just it, though, that sort of thing is what most humans fail to comprehend - it has nothing to do with who has the moral high ground, because there simply isn't any. It's all a matter of predation in the end.
If you were more to my liking, I might have wanted to keep you.
no subject
"Keep" me? As what, a pet?
[He doesn't seem bothered by that any though. The idea is actually kind of amusing. Just imagine, ghouls keeping people as pets!]
It was a good point, I'll give you that. Most people don't bother thinking about it.

[...]
As for the entire..."pet" thing, I wouldn't be the first, if I were to decide to do it. I've never really been interested in it, though.

[...Hang on, there has to be a better way to describe what he's talking about.]
Is this something that ghouls decide and force the human into, or is it something that the human participates in as well?
[...Look, he's trying.]

We do have friends, you know.
[you
you tried, um]

We do make friends with one another, though, and we understand alliances and all that. So there's no reason to assume that we don't.
no subject
[It makes sense, he supposes. There are plenty of humans who care deeply about animals, after all.]
no subject
[It's like caring about cattle. Possible, but why would you.]
I've known a few that keep humans in a more...dubious sense as well, too. Those pets we were talking about. It all depends on the individual.
no subject
[He's assuming this particular ghoul sees them as only food, but it's good to have that confirmed.]
no subject
[There's some amusement behind his words, however, and there's nothing chiding about it.]
I'm more interested in their experiences than I am in them, you could say.
no subject
What do you mean by that? I can understand not being interested in the individual, but what do you mean by being interested in their experiences?
no subject
[He taps that book he's still got with him gently, the one he was looking through earlier.]
It doesn't matter what the medium is, the point is to allow you to experience things you'll never have, things you'll never do - to be someone and somewhere else for a while. And when it's over you can go back to being yourself and loving your life, but for just a while you got to live another life vicariously, a piacere. That's what studying humans is like for me.
[He shifts a bit, leaning back in his chair, though he doesn't seem too inclined to actually go anywhere just yet.]
That's why I'm not complaining about this place too much, actually! It's not what I would have chosen for myself, and it's not what I would prefer, but I may as well enjoy the new experiences while I can have them.

[That's said more to himself than to Tsukiyama, however. He had assumed most ghouls were very content being ghouls and wanted little to do with humans, outside of eating them and killing them, of course. It's fascinating that this ghoul studies humans like they study ghouls, though Tsukiyama's interest is through entertainment rather than a desire to eliminate the ghouls.]
I'm sure there are humans just as fascinated by ghouls, though obviously those humans would be considered odd.
[Mado folds his hands and studies Tsukiyama for a moment.]
You've certainly shed some light on how ghouls think. I suppose I should thank you for the lesson.
no subject
[Surprisingly, we're not a monolith.]
But if you really want to thank me, I won't say no - answer something for me, maybe.

Would you do it quickly, or would you enjoy it?
no subject
[There is one exception, but that's not something he cares to bring up.]
no subject
[It's a bit hard to tell whether that's truly sarcastic or not...]
Maybe it'll work out that way; of course, should you die upon your return, maybe I'll be the one that kills you.
Maybe I'll do you the courtesy of breaking your neck.
no subject
[Hahahahaha...]
But this isn't the sort of thing to discuss in a library; did you need anything else from me?
no subject
[...now he's just being difficult.]
no subject
Yes, yes, of course, how could I possibly have forgotten that?
[The words are very sarcastic, however.]
no subject
I'll leave you to your research for now, indagatore, though don't expect it to go uninterrupted for terribly long if you're planning on coming here to do it; this has been where I spend my afternoons lately.
[Only mentioned for courtesy's sake, obviously - avoidance and all that.]
no subject
I appreciate the warning, I'll be sure to keep it in mind.
no subject
As well you should.
