honkai: star rail voicetesting

Hey all, you know exactly what this is: another voicetesting post! This time it's Honkai: Star Rail-flavored. Listed below are the characters I'd like to voicetest. I have prompts available for them in the comments below!

By default, I will be avoiding spoilers since it's pretty easy with most of these characters. If you want to get into backstory stuff, there likely will be spoilers, so please be aware of that. If you'd like to do spoilery threads, just let me know, and I'll mark spoilers appropriately in my comment headers.

The prompts I have are all murdergame themed, of course. Listen, murdergame settings just work really well for voicetesting for me, don't ask questions!! I am perfectly fine with other settings if none of these prompts speak to you or you'd like to do something different! I love crosscanon threads, OCs, and assumed CR so feel free to throw whatever at me!

INFORMATION:
i don't know what you expected tbh
BOOTHILL
A Galaxy Ranger devoted to upholding his own brand of justice. Boothill is a cyborg with the vast majority of his body replaced; something he pretty much always manages to avoid talking about. One thing he can't avoid is his built-in swear filter that forces him to use nicer language. Well, if you call things like "muddle-fudgers" and "well fork me" nicer language. Though he is generally more chaotic good, he's perfectly fine killing anyone who stands in the way of his revenge - look out, IPC.
SAMPO KOSKI
An exceptionally shady salesman who just can't seem to keep himself out of trouble for more than five minutes, Sampo is an absolute disaster of a person. He can and will sell anything he can get his hands on, with little care for any sort of respectable business practices. If it seems like he's up to something, it's because he is - Sampo's a man with a plan, but what that plan actually is will always be a bit difficult to pin down. Just like Sampo himself! He has a tendency to go missing just when you think you actually need his help... but he won't hesitate to ask for yours!
AVENTURINE
While he is a member of the IPC, Aventurine does things his own way. A born gambler, he greatly enjoys making bets and seeing how things turn out - and his luck has gotten him this far, so surely it won't run out any time soon. Though he may treat everyone as a friend, you'd better look out; you never know what Aventurine is truly thinking behind that smile, after all. He deeply desires his freedom and despite all the glitz and glam of his current profession... he still doesn't have it. Maybe someday things will change.

BOOTHILL
Age: 32 | Species: Cyborg | Occupation: Galaxy Ranger
Likes: Revenge, guns, fighting, the Galaxy Rangers, good booze.
Dislikes: The IPC, inaction, injustice, anyone tampering with him.
Traits: Fierce, energetic, flexible, brash.
Trivia: Boothill chose to replace his body with cybernetics!

arrival;
[This... isn't Penacony. Huh. That's weird, he wouldn't be able to enter the dream without being in Penacony... so this must somehow be somewhere else. Maybe someone will have some answers, which is what spurs Boothill to get out of the comfortable bed. Out of habit, he reaches for his gun... and his hand comes up empty.]

...Off to a great start.

[Well, it's fine. He's still got his— where are his spurs. Great. At least he can still kick things really hard?? Boothill grabs the device on the desk before leaving, pushing the door open and sauntering out. His first order of business is to ignore the other confused guests(?) and head out to look for an exit. There should be one around here somewhere...

It doesn't take him long to find the bulkhead. It looks out of place in this glamorous, expensive-looking manor, as though it was a recent addition. Even with Boothill's innate strength, he doesn't think he'll be moving it, so he doesn't even bother trying it. Instead, he turns his attention to that device, flicking through in search of any sort of information that will explain what the hell is going on.

He lands on the rules. A certain rule catches his attention immediately and his good eye goes wide.]

So that's the game we're playing. Coward ain't even gonna show his face, huh? Fudge this.

[He shoves the device back in his pocket with a snort and moves to start checking the bulkhead over - maybe their captor happened to forget that they had a cyborg here and he'll be able to break it or something.]

exploration;
[For whatever reason, this old-timey manor happens to have some interesting tech in some rooms, and next to nothing in others. Boothill isn't particularly enthused by the kitchen or the weird vending machine sitting alone in a dark room, and the library isn't really his thing either. But the last door leads into an arcade, and that's marginally more interesting than the other offers.

Boothill strolls through the place, occasionally pausing to watch some of the demos but he never sticks around for very long before moving on. Racing games, games of chance, and air hockey don't exactly seem to be his thing... but then he pauses when he finds something unfamiliar.

It's DDR. It's DDR, and it's showing a demo of a particularly difficult set of arrows, each of them lighting up as they reach the top of the screen, making it pretty obvious what one needs to do to win.]

Huh. Guess that could be fun.

[And so Boothill hops onto the DDR machine, scrolling through the songs to find one suitably fast-paced... and he immediately sets it on the hardest difficulty. One would think this is pure hubris guiding him... until he starts.

Turns out the cyborg is fast and incredibly agile despite being like 90% metal. Hitting the arrows for the slower sections is child's play, and the faster ones are pretty easy for him too - in fact, he's grinning wildly as the song goes on, and he finishes with a half-decent ranking.]

Now that's what I'm talking about! Hey, you gonna join me or are you just gonna watch?

[Ah, he's spotted you. Hello, do you want to die to DDR?]

motive;
[The Benefactor has ordered them to all gather in the ballroom, and has left envelopes for each of them with their name neatly printed. After a brief explanation, it becomes clear just what this is.]

So you're threatening us. Since we haven't been playing by your "rules", you're gonna force our hands.

[The Benefactor doesn't respond, instead the speakers remaining silent. Boothill scoffs - it's more or less expected by now; he hasn't managed to get any answers out of the guy so far anyway - and he picks up his envelope, pulling out the card inside with a frown.

He was expecting hostages, or threats on their world. What he wasn't expecting is the picture that's inside - you might catch a glimpse a wild-west-looking span of farmland if you're quick. Boothill flips the picture around to study the handwritten message on the back:
I can offer you an opportunity to return to an earlier point in time. You will retain your memories and you can change the future. All it takes is one sacrifice. Make your choice.

Sacrifice. Boothill's good eye narrows at the word and he promptly crumples the envelope and picture in one metal hand.]

Try harder next time, Benefactor.

[It's spit out like venom, and Boothill turns to leave. Though he usually gets pissed at the Benefactor whenever he's had to talk to him, this time seems different. His posture is tense in a way it usually isn't, and his expression is set in a tight, furious look. Seems that despite his show, even Boothill's not having a good time with this one.]

all fun and games;
[It's been a really tough few weeks here. Between deaths, motives, and mourning, it feels like every day is just another step towards the day where you become a victim - or a killer. Well, someone's sick and tired of all this moping around and has put together a party of sorts in the ballroom, complete with bright and colorful décor, as well as several little stations for various games.

Boothill had no intention of coming, even after he saw the note (more like an advertisement) slipped under his door. It seems like a bad time, considering they just got a motive yesterday and there's no doubt in his mind that someone is already planning to act on it. And yet here they are. Throwing a party.

Unfortunately for Boothill, he's bullied into coming to the party by one of our resident extroverts who refuse to leave the wallflowers alone, and considering the lecture he's already got about wallflowering, he's looking through the games curiously. It seems quite a few people have gathered for...]

Spin the bottle? Ain't that a kids' game?

[Unsurprisingly, he has been bullied into joining. Take a wild guess what's going to happen next. That's right! It's seven minutes in heaven with your character! C'mon, let's take this to a closet.]

Well, this ain't how I thought I'd be spending my day. Guess we're gonna have to pass the time by talking.

[........unless you want to make out with a cyborg cowboy with sharp shark-like teeth??]

[The resilience of the human spirit is a fascinating thing. They can face unspeakable horrors and still manage to pull themselves forward. To survive another day. They, a group of two dozen, have been trapped like rats and prodded until they inflict those horrors on each other. Death.

Paranoia.

Betrayal.

And yet, there are those who have only doubled down on their refusal to give in. Caution has not not faltered to instability. It's fascinating to watch the way his peers respond to each murder by becoming more bonded and defiant. They adapt and cope the same as before.

Although... the party is a bit much. And Alhaitham has also been forcibly dragged into things by The Extroverts and now he and Boothill are locked in a closet. Don't ask me the details.]

Are we? [He raises a brow. There is the obvious other solution but he's taking that as Boothill rejecting the idea.

So he reaches into his belt pouch. And pulls out a book.]

You haven't offered anything that's more interesting to me than this book. [They haven't even started talking yet... and Alhaitham is opening it to the last page he was on.]

[wow!!!!!]

Not like you've given me much of a chance, you know.

[But he peeks over Alhaitham's shoulder to try to get a look at the book.]

So what's it about? If it's caught your interest that hard, it better be a muddle-fudgin' amazin' book.

[Alhaitham doesn't move even as Boothill is peeking over his arm. In his hand is a textbook on earth-based early human cultural development. Alhaitham is reading it more as a point of comparison. It's an extremely dry text.

Without looking up:]
It only has to be more interesting than you. Are you incapable of sitting still for a few minutes?

[personal profile] swearfilter 2024-06-04 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
[...Wow, this is the least interesting thing Boothill has ever set his eye on. His eye is glazing over just a sentence in.]

How the fudge is this more interestin' than a person?

[He just sounds baffled rather than offended, but he has one takeaway here: Alhaitham is a big, huge nerd.]

And yeah, I didn't exactly come prepared to sit in the dark for seven minutes.

[He can't even stretch out in here!! Terrible.]

Well, so far the only other person around has offered nothing but complaints.

[And there is only one man who he's willing to entertain ceaseless complaints from. Not Boothill.]

It's an easy choice between listening to that or this book.

...Tch.

[The sound is annoyed, but Boothill can tell this is a losing battle. So he'll switch tactics.]

Why don't ya tell me 'bout yourself, then? What is it that you do, where you're from?

I just work as the Akademiya's scribe. Are you not interested in talking about yourself? [He flips a page before sparing a glance up at Boothill.] Or was it that you assumed I'd rather be the one sharing?

[ Though they arrived together thanks to having been together on the way to Penacony, Dan Heng quickly left Boothill to his own devices. It seemed pragmatic to split up and look around. There aren't really any answers to be found so far.

Dan Heng had checked out the library first of all, but most of the books are bland fiction or written in a dialect he's never seen — which is strange to him in and of itself. Suffice it to say, there wasn't anything to be learned there, either. It's actually only chance that they run into each other again.

He's not really big on games like this, though he idly thinks that Caelus might enjoy some of them. But there's one Galaxy Ranger cyborg tearing it up at a machine. Dan Heng finds himself stopping to watch.
]

Oh, no. I think you're doing well enough on your own. By all means, continue.

[He's doing a great job at exploring, shut up.]

Where's your fightin' spirit? C'mon, join me! Promise I won't kick your ads too badly.

[He will gladly continue to play DDR if left to his own devices, but now he's curious how Dan Heng would do with this little game. Admittedly, this isn't exactly productive, but he's had no luck finding anything useful so why not take a break and enjoy some dumb game?]

My fighting spirit

[ He says with a sigh, not even wanting to repeat the phrase. ]

— has nothing to do with playing games.

[ It isn't productive, but that's not his beef with it. His problem is how public this is. He seems a lot more unflappable than he is, and the idea of doing some silly dancing game and being terrible at it where other people can see is just too much to deal with.

Despite his argument, he hasn't walked away, either. He should! He should just turn and walk out of this arcade. But...
]

You shouldn't assume you'll win, though.

[ Maybe he has been spending too much time with both Caelus and March. ]

[ Damn you, cyborg.

Of course Dan Heng knows better than to rise to bait like this. He hesitates, telling himself to just walk away and go do anything else.

In the end, maybe it's just pride that wins out, the annoyance at the assumption that he would lose grating on him. Anyway, it's not like he's found anything useful to do here.
]

One game.

[ He's insistent about that part, at least for the time being. ]

You first, since you're already here.

[Perfect. Boothill grins at that, all sharp teeth and delight that looks far too much like mania with his features.]

Sure, I'll give ya a leg up so I don't crush ya too badly.

[Wow!! Anyway, he selects a song at random - something fast-paced and busy with arrows from the looks of the preview - and gets started. Boothill is a quick learner and this sort of thing is easy for someone with his reflexes. If you can dodge a bullet, you can play DDR.

He reaches the end of the song with a decently high rank; still room for improvement, but a good showing none the less.]

You wanna pick the song out for us?

[This is a two player DDR set so there's a second pad of arrows for Dan Heng now that he's seen how it's played!]

Oh? Coward, is it? [That voice is deep and raspy, like the person speaking has a long-standing issue with his voice, or his lungs. Still, it's also quite soft-- a wonder that it carries in this place, even while he's hidden out of sight.

Perhaps, then, it's a good thing that the room is quiet. Only the sounds of their breathing are heard.

Norton would prefer to be out of sight for now, until he can be sure that he is safe.]

[personal profile] swearfilter 2024-06-04 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Huh... Boothill's senses are sharp, but even he can't pick out where exactly those words are coming from. The acoustics in this room make it hard to pinpoint an exact location, which gets a frustrated scoff from him as he addresses his words to the room at large.]

Yeah, a muddle-fudgin' son of a nice lady who can't even be bothered to show themselves is a coward, don't ya think?

[...he's assuming that Norton is the mastermind here, sorry Norton.]
wolframite: (005 | fool's gold)

[personal profile] wolframite 2024-06-05 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Is that how you see this situation.

[Norton will have to correct him then.

He cracks his back and neck as he pushes off the wall he's been leaning against, before he no longer has to crack anything, bone giving way to rock as he walks towards the light. Becoming "Fool's Gold" has always been a process, one that he will never enjoy, but when he has actually become his other half, he can never resist the power this body gives him.

It's with this body that he greets the stranger who has the audacity to accuse him of masterminding this. He's not so roundabout with his ways of killing people.

He might as well be blocking out light with his size, even if he's already in it. Though that doesn't stop any from peeking through the hole in his torso, or the little gaps between his stones.]

Could you repeat everything you said? [Even his voice has changed, due to a lack of lungs. Everything is now much raspier, almost like one who can only whisper, but must raise their voice in order to be heard.]

[ Welt is a naturally curious individual by nature; he isn't the type to go around nosing around obnoxiously, but he isn't the type to shy away from a glance or two in someone else's direction. Small things like that, which means he does happen to catch the brief glancing image of farmland.

But, as for Welt, he is holding his envelope. Is it because he is a coward, that he hasn't opened his as of yet? It could be any number of events...the unlimited possibilities having him reluctant to gaze upon even one. So instead, he raises his head, turning his attention to Boothill, letting out a sigh in a puff of air. ]

...Once again he has tried his hand very hard at forcing others to play along with his ill-conceived game.

[ He pushes his glasses up to the bridge of his nose. ]

Do you mind if I joined you on your walk?
