[It's been a little over ten years since the two of them arrived here. Ten years is an awfully long time to be stuck here, but returning home isn't an option anymore. It hasn't been an option since they first started changing, and that wasn't all that long after they arrived. Kimbley had grown a tail and ears and Archer's eyes had turned red. It's amazing to think they had been so scared by those changes back then.

Things are different now. They aren't human, but there's no reason for that to bother them. Archer is a vampire (something that he found painfully ironic in the beginning, but he's adapted quite well to it, if he does say so himself). Not much has changed about him, appearance-wise. His nails are much longer and sharper, his eyes are red, and he has the stereotypical vampire fangs, but aside from that the only difference is the slight point to his ears. It's not like he could get any paler anyway.

Archer enters their shared apartment after work, shrugging off his coat and hanging it up before proceeding into the living room.]

Kimbley, are you home yet?

[It's kind of you to think about him! He won't be asleep for much longer, so at least there's that! Though obviously he won't be able to go outside since it's still light out.]

[...Well, it's afternoon, but you know what he means.]

[They've both completely had their sleep schedules changed since the changes. It's something he's completely used to but he can't help but think about how things were before.

It's been a long time.]

[He probably looks like hell because he hasn't had more than maybe an hour's worth of sleep.]

...Did you get any sleep at all?

[He's pretty sure he already knows what the answer to that is.]

Why didn't you wake me?

[He shrugs.]

You needed it more than me. I can't work like this anyway.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't sleep. You need to get some rest.

[viliorate]

[...yeah, probably.]

I'll sleep later.

[It's not going to work and he knows it.]

Absolutely not. Go to bed, Kimbley. The only way you're going to get better is if you rest.

[viliorate]

[Honestly, he's in too much pain to sleep well, and he opens his mouth to say as much before deciding it's better not to argue.]

Okay. I'll sleep.

Good. I have a few errands to run, but I'll be back soon. Do you need anything before I go?

[...he's really not a fan of being left alone in the apartment while he's basically defenseless.]

No, I should be fine.

[So naturally he's going to lie about it.]

Very well. I'll be back as soon as I can. I'll see about getting you some pain medicine while I'm out.

[Of course he still has to get ready, so you still have a chance to stop him if you want to!]

[He wants to stop Archer, but decides not to. He'll be fine. It's not like they've had a break-in before.]

I'm not going anywhere. I'll be here when you get back.

Alright. You'd better be sleeping when I get back.

[He won't be gone for too long at least! Nothing bad can happen in an hour or two, right?]

[...hopefully nothing happens.

Kimbley is actually going to try to sleep, but if someone breaks in he's going to hear it. But no one would be stupid enough to break into an apartment where a couple of monsters live, would they?]

[Hopefully not! He'll be back soon with some essentials; groceries aren't really necessary anymore but there are always things to get and errands to run. He heads into the bedroom after he's set everything down to check on Kimbley. Is everything okay in there?]

[Thankfully there hasn't been another disaster.

Kimbley has managed to fall asleep, though it's clearly not restful sleep.]

[...Well, Archer won't wake him unless it looks like he's having a nightmare. He'll just read instead, that's always a good way to pass the time.]

[He doesn't look like he's having a nightmare, but he eventually starts awake, blinking and moving to awkwardly touch at the bandages where he was shot.]

...damn.

[Archer glances up at that, immediately frowning.]

Is everything alright?

[viliorate]

[Kimbley nods, rubbing at his head.]

Everything's fine.

[sadisticwarfare]

...Are you sure?

[viliorate]

It was just a dream. I'm fine.

[But now he's not sure he wants to go back to sleep.]

If you're sure. Is there anything I can do for you?

[viliorate]

Did you bring any painkillers?

[That's something he knows Archer can help him with.]

[sadisticwarfare]

Ah yes, I did.

[Whoops, he probably should have handed those over first. He retrieves them and hands Kimbley a pill and a glass of water.]
