[It's been a little over ten years since the two of them arrived here. Ten years is an awfully long time to be stuck here, but returning home isn't an option anymore. It hasn't been an option since they first started changing, and that wasn't all that long after they arrived. Kimbley had grown a tail and ears and Archer's eyes had turned red. It's amazing to think they had been so scared by those changes back then.

Things are different now. They aren't human, but there's no reason for that to bother them. Archer is a vampire (something that he found painfully ironic in the beginning, but he's adapted quite well to it, if he does say so himself). Not much has changed about him, appearance-wise. His nails are much longer and sharper, his eyes are red, and he has the stereotypical vampire fangs, but aside from that the only difference is the slight point to his ears. It's not like he could get any paler anyway.

Archer enters their shared apartment after work, shrugging off his coat and hanging it up before proceeding into the living room.]

Kimbley, are you home yet?

I'm sure you could find another way to feed if you really wanted to. There's no reason to join me all the time.

[He's smirking though, so clearly he's aware that he's being paranoid.]

Hm, you're not worried I'm going to get hurt, are you?

[It's a miracle that Kimbley hasn't been stabbed with a silver knife.]

Of course I am, but that's nothing unusual is it?

[Please don't get stabbed, Kimbley.]

You shouldn't worry so much.

[You should always worry about him. If it weren't for Archer he'd be dead in a ditch somewhere.]

You know how I am. I always worry.

[...Let's ignore that, it's a terrifying thought.]

I know.

[He still doesn't think it's needed but that won't stop Archer.]

[Of course it won't, nothing will stop him from worrying!]

At least one of us is concerned about your safety.

[He's smirking though, so obviously he's teasing.]

[That earns a laugh.]

Maybe you have a point. You wouldn't let me leave without you.

Of course not. What if something happened to you?

[He'd never forgive himself for starters.]

[Ten years ago, he would have responded with something along the lines of "who cares," but after this long he actually hesitates.]

Nothing's going to happen to me.

Not while I'm around it won't.

[It's not like he's always going to be in a position to help, but it's much easier to pretend than it is to acknowledge that someday Kimbley might be seriously hurt or even die.]

[He's going to try and avoid dying, if you don't mind.]

I do a decent job taking care of myself.

[Not really. It's a miracle he hasn't lost an ear or a tail or had one of the spikes break off of his body.]

Come with me tonight.

Of course I will.

[Please don't lose any body parts, that would be unfortunate.]

It's a new moon tonight. We'll have an advantage.

[Which he... shouldn't be so excited about.

He's definitely not getting through this night without being attacked.]

Once it's dark enough most humans aren't outside. That'll be a good time.

Exactly. The ones that are outside should be easy targets between the two of us.

We just need one. It shouldn't be a problem.

[This probably happens all the time with them but it's still a terrible idea each and every time they do it.

Especially because alternatives do exist.]

[Yeah, but alternatives don't involve getting to hurt people, so obviously this is the better choice!]

It hasn't been a problem so far.

And it won't ever be.

[Well, it looks dark enough out there now.]

[His smile is nothing short of predatory.]

Lead the way.

[It's certainly dark enough outside, though obviously that's not an issue for them. Most humans are smart enough to avoid the usual "hunting grounds", so Archer doesn't even bother taking Kimbley there. Archer's tastes are still just as high-class as always, so it's no surprise that he leads Kimbley into one of the wealthier suburbs.]
